What is Title I?:

Title I is a federal education program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), currently known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). It provides financial assistance to schools with high numbers or high percentages of students from low-income families. The primary goal of Title I is to ensure that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, have equitable access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to succeed academically. Title I funds are allocated to schools based on a formula that considers the number of low-income students they serve. These funds are intended to supplement the regular education program and support additional resources, services, and interventions to help students who may be at risk of falling behind academically. Schools that receive Title I funding are required to develop a comprehensive schoolwide plan to improve academic achievement for all students, with a particular focus on addressing the needs of students from low-income families. This includes implementing evidence-based instructional strategies, providing targeted interventions, offering professional development for teachers, and fostering strong partnerships with parents and the community.Title I funds can be used to support a range of initiatives, such as hiring additional staff, implementing research-based curriculum and instructional materials, providing professional development opportunities, offering extended learning programs, and enhancing family engagement efforts. The specific use of Title I funds may vary depending on the unique needs and priorities of each school. The overarching goal of Title I is to narrow the achievement gap and ensure that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, have the necessary support and resources to succeed academically and reach their full potential.
